1. The “Solvent Problem” in C60 Production

Carbon 60 (Fullerene) is naturally a solid, black, soot-like powder. To make it bioavailable for humans, it must be dissolved into an oil (like olive or avocado oil). However, C60 is notoriously difficult to dissolve.

Most C60 is produced using hydrocarbon solvents like toluene, xylene, or benzene to extract and purify the molecules.

The Residual Risk:

If the manufacturer does not use a rigorous vacuum oven drying or high-heat process to remove volatile solvents before mixing the C60 into oil, more than just trace amounts can remain.

The “THF” Scare:

Early studies that claimed C60 was toxic were later found to be flawed because researchers used tetrahydrofuran (THF)—a toxic solvent—to suspend the C60. The toxicity came from the solvent, not the C60 itself. Today, most manufacturers use toluene instead, which is less toxic than THF but still not something you want in a finished product.
